Life is a constant barrage on our senses and emotions; it all often overwhelms us. Finding stillness, even for a minute or two at a time can allow us to settle. In anger, when having to make a decision, when trying to lead with kindness.
Imagine you are a snow globe. When we feel stressed or a big emotion, it shakes us up. Finding time for stillness allows it all to come back down. We can find clarity.
Taking time for stillness and to focus on your breathing doesn’t have to look a certain way.
– Take ten deep breaths before your respond
– You could go sit in your office or car on lunch break and do a guided meditation
– Do it when you first wake up to set your intentions for the day or when you get home from work to reset
– While you’re on the sidelines watching your kid play sports and no one would know
When you focus on your breathing, the thoughts don’t stop, but the act of mindfulness is allowing them to pass without following them and come back to the breath without judgement. Just come back to the moment you’re in.
