I once had a client come in and ask if something was wrong with them, because they watched the same thing over and over again. I explained to them that nothing is wrong with them, they may just be doing so because they feel good knowing the end. Especially if the show has a feel good vibe. People with anxiety can be calmed by knowing the plot and characters so well. There are no surprises.
In the year of 2025 so much has changed and that has left many feeling out of control and not being able to predict what happens next. Which is why we get our comfort where we can. Whether it’s through a book, comfort show/movie, or the same song/album over and over again. These things are often closely linked to a memory we want to connect with. Food can also be a source of comfort, for example the dish your mom used to make for dinner when it was your birthday.
If we’re lucky we get to create spaces where we can feel safe and relax. With people, food, temperature or textures that feel good.
If your comfort shows aren’t bringing you the same relief they used to, there may be some deeper things going on. If you or someone you know is needing someone to talk to or explore life’s challenges, Sonder is now accepting new clients. Call or email today!
