Those Who Help You Tell Your Story
Mark Schillinger, LCSW
Life can sometimes be overwhelming, and our relationships are what help us makes sense of difficult experiences. Whether it is our relationships with others or with ourselves, the quality of these relationships has a profound impact on our lives. When a baby is not provided the necessary attention and care from their parents, they may experience profound difficulty forming attachments later in life. A child bullied by his classmates may have lower self-esteem and affect his ability to feel safe making new friends. When an adult’s partner has engaged in an affair, it can make it difficult to trust their partner or difficulty trusting others in future relationships. These examples speak to the importance of striving to make the best in all relationships.
I believe the relationship between a client and therapist is the fundamental component of positive change. My goal is to ensure that my clients feel a sense of safety and security. The felt sense of safety and security allows clients to be authentically vulnerable and open to learning new things.
I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker who works with children, adults, families, and couples to address various challenges, including suicidality and self-harm, depression, anxiety, substance abuse, divorce, co-parenting, and LGBTQI+ issues. In addition to being relationally focused, I use a trauma-informed lens in working with clients. Also, I strive to provide therapy that meets the individualized needs of those I serve using different therapeutic approaches, such as CCPT, DBT, EMDR, and EFT.
If you are interested in improving the quality of your relationships with others or with yourself, it would be my honor to help guide you through the process.
